Sun-washed salt-marsh shore
Heron wading with measured steps
Distant snow-capped mountain range
Fishing boats’ crews setting nets
A plethora of birds ply the airspace
out my bedroom window;
hawks, seagulls, ducks,
blackbirds, herons, wrens,
robins, doves, crows.
In their frenzied sexual quest
for nesting mates
they pronounce Spring’s arrival
on the Inishowen Peninsula.
Inch Island speckled
with sunlight & cloud shadow
contending to determine today’s weather
while sheep graze unconcerned
on its green hillside abundance.
